Supporting WordPress: Caring for your clients and community

The purpose of this presentation is to provide information and insight into what it takes to provide ongoing maintenance for a client or community based on WordPress.

I’ll focus on using popular plugins such as bbPress for a support forum and BuddyPress for creating community.  As well as best practices for keeping things up to date.  This would be a variety of community-based and premium solutions including:

  • WordPress-based managed hosting such as WP Engine
  • Updating tools such as WP Remote or Mange WP
  • Staying up to date on security by following along with blogs such as sucuri.net.

Additionally, I’ll talk about incentives for community participation.  This will specifically be geared towards engaging your community to help each other by creating an environment that rewards that kind of activity.  I have experience in doing this as the Support Lead at WPMU DEV.  We have built many internal systems to help us track how we’re handling support and to gauge how effective that support is.
